About
Satellite communications are enabling oil and gas companies to increase productivity and reduce costs, and for a disproportionately small expense. This is the conclusion reached through a long-standing collaboration between the oil and gas sector and providers of the energy sector’s mission critical information and communications technologies (ICTs), companies comprising the membership of GVF.
For example, in the hydrocarbons exploration and
production (E&P) environment key questions include:
- Is the industry doing all that it can to optimise its production and exploration return on investment?
- How can the outcomes of upstream E&P activities be maximised?
- What cutting-edge technologies are needed to ensure enhanced levels of oil and gas recovery?
Whilst the answers lay within the realms of multiple
disciplines, they must include reference to the fact that operational success
in the upstream is dependent on access to the most efficient ICTs, and to the
wealth of sophisticated applications these technologies bring to the teams of
geologists, geophysicists, drilling engineers, seismic data analysts, etc., who
locate new oil and gas reserves and extract them from the ground and from
beneath the ocean floor through the collection of massive amounts of disparate
data in multiple formats (including GPS, acoustic, compass and other sensor
data) and using such information for predictive analysis.
GVF, with its partner EMP, began the Oil & Gas Communications Conference
Series in May 2006. It has since presented multiple conference programmes
in Europe (Aberdeen), the Middle East (Cairo and Abu Dhabi), South East Asia
(Kuala Lumpur), and South America (Rio de Janeiro). The topics discussed at
these events, reflected in the presentations available on this website, provide
wide and ample evidence of the services and technologies that are offered by
the satellite communications industry as an integral element of the resources
that can be commanded by the energy sector in its pursuit of efficiencies in
exploration and cost-effectiveness in production.
