Setting up a HOST session

All GVF HOST sessions are now being managed by SatProf on the new learning system. Even if you do not charge for HOSTs, and if your HOST is private within your organization, we track all students' attendance and certification using the online system. Therefore, if you are planning a HOST session, or even if you are simply offering HOST's on an unscheduled basis to your organization, please let us know at gvfsupport@satprof.com. If we do not have your HOST sessions programmed in the learning system, students will not be able to receive their certifications.

How to accept fees for a HOST

If you are charging a fee for giving a HOST, there are two options for Examiners to accept fees:

The first option is to have students pay GVF (through SatProf). Payments can be accepted automatically by credit card using the GVF learning system. Students can also pay by any of the other methods GVF accepts (wire transfer, Western Union, and Purchase Order with prior GVF approval). After the session, SatProf will then remit the net fees back to the Examiner, minus an administration fee and any money transfer costs (which can be substantial). If you wish to use this option, then you must tell us the price for your sessions and if you will accept the 50% Andrew Werth developing country discount.

The second option is to have students pay you directly. In this case, we notify students in the course catalog that they must pay the Examiner, but we permit anyone to self-enroll in your sessions in the online learning system at no charge. It is your responsibility to collect all fees from the students.

What if I don't want to accept fees and I am not giving public HOST sessions?

No problem. First, be sure to tell us that your HOST sessions in the online learning system should not appear in the course catalog or "Add New Course" menu for all students. Second, go to the "Edit my profile" page and for "Do you offer install services outside your org?", select NO. That will prevent you from being listed in the "Find an Examiner near you" page.

Hands On Skills Test (HOST) description and score sheet.

When you give a HOST, you must test every student for the skills listed in this sheet. Every student must pass all skills, including beam balance pointing.

What if I am giving more training than just the HOST test?

That is great! GVF actively encourages Examiners to offer supplementary training along with the minimum HOST's. For example, you may give a review session, allow extra hands on practice time, teach special skills such as advanced troubleshooting, or any other topics. The only requirement is that in order for a training session to be labeled as authorized by GVF, you must submit the agenda to GVF for approval before you offer the class.  Simply email us at gvfsupport@satprof.com and tell us what you would like to do, and we will be pleased to assist!

How do I tell if my students have completed their online prerequisite courses?

Email us any time at gvfsupport@satprof.com for a status update. We are working to make it possible for Examiners to log in to the administrators portal to run reports directly. More information will be available when this service is fully established.

What to do after the HOST session:

Before students leave, make sure that every student signs his or her own HOST score sheet! You may keep the original sheets, but it is critical and necessary that we receive a scanned or faxed copy of each student's completed sheet. Students will not receive credit for passing the HOST, and therefore will not be able to get their certifications, until we receive the signed HOST score sheet.
